Abstract

- North Halmahera’s Human Development Index in 2023 reached 69.79, an increase of 0.66 points (0.95 percent) compared to previous year (69.13).

- During the period 2020–2023, North Halmahera’s HDI increased on average by 0.74 percent annually.

- All HDI dimensions including long and healthy life, knowledge, and decent standard of living improved in 2023.

- In the long and healthy life dimension, life expectancy at birth in 2023 was recorded as high as 71.74 years. This means children who were born in this year were expected to live 0.21 years longer than those who were born in the previous year. Measurement of life expectancy at birth is based on the result of long form 2020 population census (LF SP2020), a masive data collection covering demographic characteristics.

- In the knowledge dimension, in 2023 children aged 7 years have the hope of enjoying formal education for 13.68 years. This figure increased by 0.01 years compared to the previous year which reached 13.67 years. Apart from that, the average length of schooling for people aged 25 years and over also increased by 0.02 years, from 8.63 years in 2022 to 8.65 years in 2023. The HLS and RLS data sources use the Susenas March results.

- In the dimension of decent living standards, which is measured based on the average real expenditure per capita (adjusted) in 2023 it will reach 8.15 million rupiah, an increase of 378 thousand rupiah compared to 2022 which was recorded at 7.77 million rupiah. The data source for real expenditure per capita per year uses the results of the March Susenas.
