Abstract

Human development in North Maluku in 2020 has decreased compared to 2019. In 2020, the HDI of North Maluku reached 68.49, a decrease of 0.21 points compared to 2019 which amounted to 68.70.
  • The speed of human development in North Maluku in 2020 will experience a slowdown. It is indicated by the growth in HDI which contracted by 0.31 percent, lower than the growth in 2019 which reached 1.39 percent.
  • In 2020, the status of human development in North Maluku is at the “Medium” level or category. This status is still the same as in 2019.
  • The decline in North Maluku's HDI occurred in the adjusted per capita expenditure component. Babies born in 2020 have the hope of living up to 68.33 years. In 2020, children who are 7 years old have the hope of enjoying 13.67 years of education (Diploma II). Meanwhile, on average, the population aged 25 years and over has studied for 9.04 years (class IX). The people of North Maluku in 2020 meet the necessities of life with an average per capita expenditure of 8.03 million rupiah per year.
  • North Maluku's HDI has decreased in almost all regions, with the exception of East Halmahera and Morotai Island Regencies. The highest HDI is occupied by Ternate City (79.82) while the lowest HDI is still occupied by Taliabu Island Regency (60.48).
